The Island provides suitable habitat for a wide variety of species.

Golden Eagle, De Stein Adler, Fr Aigle Royal ,( Aquila Chrysaetos )
More than one pair of these spectacular birds succesfully breed and visitors to Lochranza are almost guaranteed a glimpse.

Goshawk, De Habicht, Fr Autour des Palombes , (Accipiter Gentilis )
Now established as a breeding species though a great deal of luck is required to see one.

Sparrowhawk , De Sperber , Fr Epervier , (Accipiter Nisus )
Widely distributed the female is commonly observed whilst the much smaller male or Musket can escape notice.

Buzzard , De Mausebussard , Fr Buse Variable , ( Buteo Buteo )
Common throughout the Island frequently observed sitting on roadside fence posts. Spectacular when soaring.

Peregrine Falcon , De Wanderfalke , Fr Faucon Pererin , ( Falco Peregrinus )
several pairs breed each year usualy in the vicinity of sea cliffs.

Kestrel , De Turmfalke , Fr Faucon Crecerelle , (Falco Tinninculus )
